Healthy Eating is Hard – Or is It?

Healthy Eating is Hard

As we head into the new year, many who resolved to eat healthier in 2023 might be losing motivation. Getting healthy food on the go isn’t easy…or is it? Our private chef service in Charleston is dedicated to finding recipes that suit your needs without sacrificing taste. These are our tips to stay on track and eat well without feeling like you are missing out!

Put Half Away

One of the biggest reasons that we overeat is because we’ve become accustomed to big plates. When someone puts delicious food in front of us, it is hard to resist. Just because you have a full plate doesn’t mean that you have to eat it all. Before you dig in, put half the meal aside for later. If you are hungry after you let the food sit for a bit, it will be there, but removing it will help you pause before continuing to dig in.

Fresh Vegetables are Delicious if Cooked Correctly

Not everyone loves vegetables… but is that because they haven’t tried our vegetables? You don’t have to smother something with butter and cheese to make it taste good. Sometimes just a gentle sauté with garlic, olive oil, and salt is enough to make any greens taste amazing! When you prepare vegetables with the right amount of seasoning, they come alive with flavor. Also, sautéing them with olive oil, a healthy type of fat, will make them even healthier.

Go Outside Your Taste Zone

A lot of us eat simply because we are bored. When we eat flavorful and unique foods, our taste buds want to take the time to savor and eat them slowly. Unlike eating chips out of a bag, which predictably tastes the same (granted, it tastes good), when you have foods with a high flavor profile, it will distract you from the autopilot we can often feel when we eat the same food day after day. When you have something to savor, you won’t scarf it down.

Eat Superfoods and Foods with Zero Calorie Profiles

Eating healthy doesn’t mean just counting calories and concentrating on the fat content of a food. When you eat something, make it count. Whether that means adding avocado, a food that burns more calories eating it than you take in, or superfoods that pack a ton of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, the point is to make your food count – not just in calories, but in more of what your body needs.

Be Colorful

Nature is pretty amazing. Foods that are rich in the nutrients we need, like berries and fresh vegetables, are colorful to attract the eye – and that’s for survival. We are attracted to colorful foods because our bodies want to eat them. When creating a meal or your plate, focus on trying to get as many colorful foods on your plate as you can. If you look down and all you see are varying shades of brown and white, then you are missing the mark.
